TSCM Skills Training; Why The Verrimus Way Works

When it comes to TSCM Skills training, it’s often assumed that an extensive operational background is all that’s needed to become an effective instructor. At Verrimus, we believe that the ability to train and instruct is a distinct skill set that goes far beyond mere expertise in the field. Not everyone who can drive a vehicle can effectively instruct someone else! Owning a Formula 1 car, does not make you a Formula one driver….owning the best TSCM equipment, doesn’t make you a TSCM operator! In this blog post we’ll explore why not everyone is cut out to train, and how our unique approach ensures that our instructors are exceptionally well-equipped to provide high-quality tailored TSCM training.

The Dual Skill Set: Operational Expertise and Training Proficiency

At Verrimus, our instructors are more than just seasoned TSCM professionals; they are also trained educators. While operational experience is essential, it’s equally important that our instructors can clearly and confidently convey complex concepts, demonstrate practical skills, and provide meaningful feedback. This is why every instructor at Verrimus undergoes rigorous internal ‘trainer training’ to ensure they meet our high standards for knowledge transfer and instructional effectiveness. Not all Verrimus TSCM Operators choose to become Verrimus TSCM Instructors.

The Importance of Verrimus’s Internal Knowledge Transfer Training

Our internal Knowledge Transfer training is designed to ensure that all of our instructors can not only perform operational TSCM tasks but can also teach them effectively. This training focuses on several key areas:

  • Clear Communication: Our instructors are trained to break down complex topics into understandable segments, making it easier for students to grasp and retain critical information.
  • Practical Demonstration: Beyond theory, our instructors are adept at demonstrating the practical aspects of TSCM, ensuring that students can see, understand, and replicate essential techniques.
  • Student Engagement: A good instructor knows how to observe and critique students in a way that encourages growth. Our trainers are skilled at providing constructive feedback that helps students refine their skills.

Experiential Learning: The Core of Verrimus Training

At Verrimus, we don’t just teach TSCM skills; we immerse our students in it. Our training programs are built around experiential learning techniques that provide students with hands-on experience in realistic scenarios. This approach not only makes the training more engaging but also ensures that students are better prepared to apply what they’ve learned in real-world situations.

For a deeper dive into our experiential learning approach, you can read more in our blog post “Experiential Learning in TSCM Training: Bridging Theory and Practice”.

A Unique Pedagogical Approach

Our Managing Director, Sarah Saul, brings a unique psychological perspective to our training programs, drawing from her background in qualitative research and focus group facilitation. Her experience in delivering lectures to undergraduates in Psychology and Advertising at Edge Hill College, Merseyside has been instrumental in shaping our training methods. This academic grounding underpins our focus on experiential learning, ensuring that our courses are both intellectually rigorous and practically relevant.

In addition to Sarah’s contributions, our Lead Instructor, Gavin Saul, brings extensive experience in training delivery across various subject areas. His understanding of different learning styles—whether acoustic, kinetic, or visual—ensures that our training is accessible and effective for all students. Gavin’s insights have been pivotal in evolving our training programs to meet the diverse needs of our students. Ensuring Realism in TSCM Skills Training

One of the hallmarks of Verrimus training is the level of realism we incorporate into our courses. We tailor our training scenarios to reflect the actual challenges that TSCM professionals will face in the field, ensuring that our students are well-prepared for real-world operations. This commitment to realism is a key aspect of our training philosophy, as highlighted in our recent post on “Elevating TSCM Skill Training”.

Get Your TSCM Skills Training From Specialists

At Verrimus, we understand that expertise in TSCM alone isn’t enough to be an effective instructor. Training is an art form that requires a specific skill set—one that we ensure our instructors develop through our internal Knowledge Transfer training. Combined with our focus on experiential learning and our unique pedagogical approach, we offer TSCM training that is both comprehensive and impactful.

If you’re looking to advance your skills in TSCM, trust that our instructors are not just experts in the field—they are also experts in the art of teaching.

End Note

At Verrimus, we deliberately choose not to pursue any external third-party certification for our Operational TSCM training courses due to the highly sensitive nature of the content we cover. To obtain such certification, we would be required to submit critical aspects of our training—such as learning objectives, live scenarios, competence assessment criteria, course content, and our unique Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs)—to an examining or certification body. This would expose our carefully guarded knowledge transfer processes to external scrutiny, potentially compromising the very information we aim to protect. Given that operational techniques and procedures must constantly evolve to counter new and emerging threats, revealing this sensitive information could provide technical surveillance attackers or hostile organizations with valuable insights into our countermeasures. By keeping our training internal and free from external certification, we ensure the confidentiality and integrity of our security methodologies, ultimately safeguarding our clients and the broader TSCM community.
