Technical Security Countermeasures? What’s that?

We keep hearing people talking about technical security countermeasures, when what they are referring to is technical SURVEILLANCE countermeasures. Technical security IS NOT technical surveillance. Language is important! Using an inaccurate term displays an organisation’s lack of knowledge.

Do you know the difference? What is technical security? What is technical surveillance? There are major differences. If you discover a company using the term technical security when they are referring to TSCM, ask them to describe the differences. Security and surveillance should not be used interchangeably in the context of countermeasures.
